Ozona is a small, old waterfront community on the Gulf side of the county, between Palm Harbor and Crystal Beach, with the Pinellas Trail running through it. The streets are narrow, the lots are small and irregular, and very little about one yard here tells you what the next one needs.

The streets are narrow and the lots are small and irregular, so a mower has less room to work and more of the yard has to be done by hand. A visit written for an open rectangular lot does not fit these properties, and there is no single pattern that covers the street.
Live oaks and planting that has been in the ground for decades shade a lot of these yards. Turf under a canopy gets a fraction of the light that turf in the open gets, so it grows thinner, wears out faster and needs a higher cut than the sunny half of the same lawn.
Ozona is on the water, so the lawns and the beds take salt air. St. Augustine tolerates salt better than the other lawn grasses used in this part of Florida, which is part of why it is the grass here, and cutting it high keeps the roots deep enough to handle it.
We work an Ozona lot on what it is rather than to one standard pattern. Where the lawn is shaded we cut at the top of the range for the grass, which for standard St. Augustine in Florida is between three and a half and four inches, because a taller blade holds a deeper root.
Where there is old planting tight against the house, the hedges and the bed lines get hand work instead of one fast machine pass, and the cuttings leave with us. Clippings stay off the sidewalk and out of the storm drains, which is part of the Landscape Best Management Practices we are trained and certified in.
